In the section on antibiotics, Alembic started producing erythromycin in India in 1971, shortly after penicillin was first manufactured. Alembic also introduced and integrated the erythromycin trademark known as "Althrocin." In India, Althrocin surpassed all other erythromycin brands in sales in 1997.
